The Canadian-born psychologist has worked at Stanford University since 1953 and is one of the most cited psychologists, living or dead. His early work was in the behaviorist tradition, showing that behavior and the environment influence each other (reciprocal determinism).
Bandura took a cognitivist approach to observational learning (see in particular the famous Bobo doll studies); he coined the term modelling, to describe the process whereby we learn through imitating one another (and which early behaviorists such as Thorndike excluded).
