Roger Andersen

portrait de Roger Andersen
(United States 1940-2008)

Professor of applied linguistics at UCLA for thirty years, Andersen is noted for groundbreaking work in a number of different areas.

His nativization hypothesis compared second language acquisition to the pidginization theories of John Schumann and represents an early recognition of the autonomous status of interlanguage grammars.  Andersen also conducted important research on second language tense/aspect systems, and was involved in the development of discourse-centred learning resources for the indigenous South American language Quechua.
